FOUNDATION GRANTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Thanks to a grant from the generous donors to the Polk County Community Foundation, the Polk County History Museum is showing off many of its historical artifacts. This grant funds not only give museum visitors better viewing, it also protects the items from being mishandled.

In 2024 the Polk County History Museum was relocated from Walker Street to its new home at 33 Gibson Street in downtown Columbus. Due to the generosity of the House of Flags Museum, the county museum is now co-located with the one and only flag museum in the United States. So now there are two museums under one roof.

The Polk County Historical Association's museum move was a challenging endeavor. The relocation to the House of Flags Museum required a significant rearrangement of dozens of exhibits and hundreds of artifacts. The Polk County Community Foundation grant has allowed for the purchase of new lighted glass display cases that make our local historical artifacts shine. In addition, the grant also provided new overhead lighting to help accent the displays.

Since both museums are all volunteer led organizations and supported primarily through private donors, this Foundation grant has been a huge benefit. The PCHA Board of Directors expresses their sincere appreciation to the generous donors to the Polk County Community Foundation for their support.
